Salsa Solo

To all those young at heart, irrespective of your age or fitness levels, on the occasion of World Youth Skill Day 2020, Rotaract Club of Thane Hills conducted a project called Salsa Solo.

Salsa solo, a salsa dance workshop, was our club’s first official project of the new Rotaract year. Rtr. Dr. Nidhi Padave, in her first project as a chairperson, aimed to enlighten our participants with the importance of dance in our lives and to encourage more people to consider the world of dance from a more professional point of view. The almost 2-hour session was conducted via Google Meet, with over 60 Rotaractors and Non-Rotaractors in attendance.

The highlight of the session was the experienced salsa dance instructor, Sailee Angane, a Rotaractor herself, who kept the session upbeat and interesting throughout. The instructor taught some basic moves of the Salsa dance form. Even though Salsa is considered a complex dance form, due to Rtr. Sailee’s teaching style, the session was fruitful to even the most novice of dancers. She also answered some questions from the participants related to considering dance as a profession.

The host, Rtr. Dr. Nidhi who is a physiotherapist by profession added to the Q&A session by talking about the effects of dancing on our physical health and with useful tips about how one can maintain bone and muscle health while dancing. Attributing to the enthusiasm of the participants, the workshop lasted longer than expected and ended with everyone dancing their heart out to salsa tunes.
