About Rotaract

Rotaract began as a youth program for Rotary International. It began in 1968 at Charlotte North Rotary Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States and has been growing ever since.

The word ‘Rotaract’ is a combination of two words ‘Rotary’ and ‘Interact’ (international + Action) which is a high school level program created by Rotary International in 1962. But the word actually stands for

Rotaract = Rotary in Action

A Rotaract Club provides a safe space for the youth to from 18 to 30 years of age to develop their professional and leadership skills, innovate and exchange ideas with community leaders and have fun while reaching out to the society at large.

Most activities in Rotaract happen at the Club level. These include (but not restricted to) conducting regular formal meetings, having featured speakers and guests, special outings, visits to other clubs, discussions, community-oriented and member-oriented projects and more.

The prospective members are usually inducted at the start of the year though they can join mid-way too. They go on to join one or multiple of the avenues of their choice and work towards the goals in that avenue. The avenues of service include Community Service, Club Service, Professional Development, Entrepreneurship Development, Digital Communications, PR and Marketing, International Service, and Sports.
